Tracking your run

This uses the accelerometer in the iphone and is reasonably accurate even without calibration.
There is also an application wich works with a Nike sensor atached to your show (nike has a slot in some of its shoes, but i guess you can just attach the sensor to any shoe)
finally the upload can be wirelessly synced to the website and progress can be graphed
The gym I go to also has LifeFitness equipment (treadmill, Cross Trainer and cycle) which lets me download the running stats into an US B stick and upload it into their website and keep track of the progress on the treadmill as well as manually enter values from the iphone. This is on the Virtual trainer website
Daily Mile is another site that lets your log your running that i have tried using.
And, for those interested in letting their friends track how they are progressing, most of these sites let you send this to your Facebook or Twitter with the push of a button .

Blackmores Sydney Marathon | Sydney Running Festival
In what i would call a momentary lapse of reason, I agreed to run a half Marathon.
With a team from my work place, SAP and for a charity Redkite.
Blackmores Sydney Marathon | Sydney Running Festival
21.0975 Kms
Sept 18th

For someone who at the most has run 5Km this is an interesteing journey.
But i hope it will involve a lot of discipline and joy and pain (more of the latter)
Looking at the last years run results
7251 of the 8487 entrants completed the race in an average time of 2hrs and 05 min
The quickest was 1hr and 6 minutes (thats about 19Kmph average! throughout the race or approx 3 min per Km pace!!)
The average time is a reasonable 10Kmph or a pace or little less than 6.00 km per min - which is probably my base speed but i have never run more than 4 or 5 kms till date at that speed
The official cut off time is 2hrs and 45 min and that would be a pace of 7min 49 per km or better....
